NCD FINANCING ACCELERATORS

Regionally based NCD Financing Accelerators led by leading institutions are the backbone of FAN’s regional strategy, serving as important access points for stakeholders and valuable sources of regional expertise, data, and knowledge.

They perform a wide range of important roles: leading local initiatives, identifying and catalyzing financing models, facilitating knowledge exchange, and providing technical expertise to governments, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.

FAN launched its first NCD Financing Accelerator in Sub-Saharan Africa and expanded to Latin America and the Caribbean in 2026. The initiative is expected to extend its reach to the Asia-Pacific region in the coming year.

With a deep understanding of local needs and solutions, FAN's regional NCD Financing Accelerators facilitate the design and implementation of tailored health financing solutions and programs, promote country- and regional-level leadership in health financing for NCDs, and foster a vibrant community of practice among governments, country practitioners, and regional and global experts.

Through the NCD Financing Accelerators, countries are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and tools needed to appropriately finance their NCD responses, more efficiently marshal available resources, and build and sustain resilient health financing systems that can thrive in a challenging global health and economic landscape.

Sub-Saharan Africa NCD Financing Accelerator

Sub-Saharan Africa has the fastest rising rates of NCD morbidity and mortality globally. Increased health financing, more efficient spending, and strengthened health financing systems are critical to building a healthier and more prosperous Africa. With increasing momentum to address NCDs in the region, Africa presents a critical setting for innovative solutions that can be scaled to other regions facing similar challenges.

Latin America and the Caribbean NCD Financing Accelerator

The Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region is at a pivotal moment in health, with the highest proportion of deaths due to NCDs compared to other developing regions. More than 240 million people in the region are living with at least one NCD and per-capita health expenditures are projected to at least double in most LAC countries by 2050. As countries work to adapt, many are exploring new and innovative financing approaches to meet growing needs.
