WHY HEALTH FINANCING FOR NCDs

Every year, an estimated 41 million people die from NCDs, with the majority occurring in LMICs. The five most common NCDs—cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, cancer, diabetes, and mental health conditions—represent a huge global health and economic burden.

Resource constraints in LMICs combined with the continuing burden of infectious disease and the compounding effects of fiscal limitations, geopolitical conflict, and climate change create a clear and urgent need for more creative and effective approaches.

NCDs: The facts

Responding to country needs

Governments and implementing actors on the ground have told us what they need to effectively address NCDs: locally relevant evidence and solutions that will enable them to reshape the way they finance their healthcare systems. This means supporting the strengthening of primary healthcare systems as part of universal health coverage so that quality NCD care can be accessible to as many people as possible.
