On 23–24 April, the Financing Accelerator Network for NCDs (FAN) achieved a key milestone by hosting its first regional dialogue in Buenos Aires. The event, aimed at establishing a collaborative health financing agenda for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), was hosted by the Instituto de Effectividad Clínica Sanitariaies (IECS)—FAN's regional NCD Financing Accelerator host institution—and brought together a diverse coalition of over 40 representatives from across Latin America and the Caribbean.
The two-day hybrid workshop served as a high-level convening point for stakeholders from 10 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay. This group represented a strategic cross-section of the region’s health and finance sectors, including government officials, multilateral development banks, and international cooperation agencies, alongside voices from civil society, academia, the research community, and FAN partners—Access Accelerated, the World Bank, and Results for Development.
Throughout the meeting, participants worked to validate preliminary findings from FAN’s regional NCD financing landscape analysis, using those insights to shape FAN priorities and identify opportunities for coordinated regional action. The second day transitioned into a strategic workshop, where attendees worked to translate evidence and shared priorities into an implementation plan, alongside a shared learning agenda for the region.
Looking ahead, the full report of the regional NCD Financing analysis will be published in the coming months, providing a deeper analysis of the specific financing challenges and opportunities to strengthen sustainable financing for NCDs across the region.
