The World Bank and the World Health Organization, together with partners, have launched a new country-focused webinar series exploring key issues in health financing, noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), and mental health.

The first session takes place on Tuesday, April 29 and will focus on the role of health taxes, with speakers from Ghana, Brazil, and the Philippines sharing their country experiences.

Health taxes represent a win-win arrangement — they are good for population health and good for the public purse. This session will look at the policy and implementation processes to introduce health taxes in a country, including the role of coalitions in making the case, the type of evidence which is helpful and how the deliberations can contribute to a political momentum for more attention to NCDs.

In this webinar, building on the experience of Ghana and other countries, speakers will explore the challenges and barriers as well as opportunities, across policy stages, from agenda setting till implementation.

Speakers include Jumana Qamruddin and Agnès Couffinhal (World Bank), Professor Amos Laar (University of Ghana), Mônica Andreis (Brazil), Ma. Teresa S. Habitan (Philippines), Guillermo Paraje (Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Chile), and Angeli Vigo Rayner (WHO).

The session will be conducted in English and interpreted simultaneously into Arabic, Chinese, English, French and Spanish. It will be interactive: you will be able to address your questions to the panelists.
